What to expect step by step in a Botulinum Toxin treatment
Each botulinum toxin treatment starts with a consultation (you can read the blog post on the initial consultation procedure) not every consult will be as in depth as the initial one.
You will be lying down on a bed for the injections, normally in a semi raised position. I will apply a numbing cream only if you absolutely want me to. The disclaimer is that the numbing cream can affect the pH of the botulinum toxin and reduce its longevity. The choice is up to you.
I will then clean the skin, sterilise it and let it dry. After it is dry I will mark the injection points. Botulinum Toxin injecting is a relatively quick and easy procedure. I will move around the treatment bed for the injections and you will feel a slight sting as I deposit the injection into the muscle. Pain is a subjective experience so I cannot tell you exactly how intensely you will feel it, but the majority of my patients say overall it wasn’t too bad.
Here is a little self marketing…one thing I will say is being a dentist is possibly the best occupation for preparing you to do aesthetic injections as painlessly as they can be done. As a dentist not only do I inject many many times a day, but there is such a huge focus on doing it as painlessly as possible. I am wired to be the most gentle injector and many patients comment on my soft approach and hand skills. Self-punt over.
I will then clean your face again and walk you through the post care instructions. You will have tiny “sting” like bumps initially but they disappear quite quickly. Sometimes there are tiny bleed marks.
I do not advise placing concealing makeup on right after your treatment. So plan ahead of time that you will be going wherever you are going next without makeup and possibly with some red bumps.
