Other uses of Botulinum Toxin

The main use of botulinum toxin injections is for smoothening of wrinkle lines in the upper face. But there are some other interesting applications.

Here are three more ways we can use it:

For patients who grind their teeth and clench their jaws significantly

As a dentist, I am used to see the heavy effects of teeth grinding (bruxism) on patients. Not only does it wear down their teeth significantly, it also causes them to hold tension in their jaw and musculature, they often suffer from headaches and pain. Patients who grind their teeth can even present with very heavy set muscles in their cheeks. The masseter muscle is responsible for a lot of the lifting and movement of the lower jaw and so we target that specific muscle with the botulinum toxin. It normally requires quite a large dosage due to the strength and size of the muscle.

For patients with excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis)

Botulinum Toxin can be injected under the arms as a way to reduce excessive sweating. These sorts of treatments can honestly change peoples’ lives and are a solution to something that has caused discomfort their whole lives.

For migraine sufferers

Botulinum Toxin can also be injected into certain muscles to help relieve migraines.
